Swarm - 3/26/25

Post by MadItalian »

Found a swarm hanging off the back of one of my hives. It might be from the swarm hive I picked up last year - queen was not marked. My other 2 queens are marked.

Anyway - captured queen and put her into an empty hive under swarm ball. They all walked into the hive over 20 mins.

Added them to an empty space in my apiary. Sugar water will be added later today.

When is best time to release the queen from the queen holder? The attendants can feed her fine, so is tomorrow a good release time?

I would give it a couple of days in the clip. Also, consider adding a frame of open brood from one of your other hives to help anchor them in.
