High Tree Swarm
I just got a swarm call from Debbie Walsh 336-558-3714. She has a swarm she wants removed that she estimates is 40 to 50 foot high in a pear tree. I couldn't help her with one that high. Is there anyway or anybody you know that can catch one that high?
Re: High Tree Swarm
She called me as well. I told her she either needed a friend with a bucket truck or a bow and arrow where they could shoot a rope over a branch and haul a box up to the cluster. I didn't think to tell her about trying to shoot the branch out of the tree. Essentially, I told her to wish the swarm well. They came out of her hive so they are looking to go a distance from their original location. If anyone has ideas about how to lure a clustered swarm from high up in a tree, I'd like to hear them.
Re: High Tree Swarm
Nope, no ideas for one that high! Reminds me of all the swarms I've watched issue from my home hives and go straight up 80+ ft into my oak tree. Just sitting up there taunting me...
I have had luck with my wire mesh trash can on the extension pole that can get those up to 20 ft or so. I haven't tried hauling a bucket up to real high swarms, but a tree-guy buddy of mine has a special heavy bean bag tied to a string that he throws up over limbs that might be something I try next year.
