Metarhizium anisopliae highly pathogenic to Varroa

Post by TJ »

Kurt, How could we find out if this has come to market yet, or when it's expected? Is there an extension agent that could help? TJ

If this is the same fungus that I am aware of and it comes to market Dadant and or Brushy will pick it up immediately. I also am in constant contact with the State and probably will receive word by email.
I am not sure this is a silver Bullet, but it will be interesting to add to our arsenal if it comes to fruition.

That article was published in October of 2004. It has since been put down by other tests and studies, according to the postings from time to time on beesource.

Aaah, okay, I didn't see the other articles, but did notice it was from 2004, I was hoping it was something ready to be marketed. They sounded so sure in the article, too bad it didn't work out. Thanks for the response.

Another question  , do either of you know where I can get CERTAN (bacillus thuriengiensis Berliner). This is the bacteria for wax moth that's sprayed on the comb and it was sold by Dadant about 20 years ago, but I can't see it in their catalogue or any others; do you know if it is still available? Maybe it's under another trade name?

I have a powdered form of Bt aizawai which
is the same as Certan/B401, available for sale. It only takes 4
teaspoons to make a gallon of spray and
there is an indefinite shelf life on this
form prior to mixing.

That's great! I'll pick up some from you when I come down, if you can spare it. Thanks, TJ
