Lesson Learned

I went out to weed eat around my hives this afternoon. The bees soon gave me a lecture on how they would rather I didn't do that when it is 90 degrees and they are trying to bring in what skimpy rations there are out there now. A number of them were assigned to escort me back to my truck, and hover there until they were sure I had understood the message.

The little swollen spots on my body are reminders to choose another time or method for weed removal. :)

Very testy right now I would say! I am leaving mine alone if possible.

We are being chased around our yard daily. Only by one or two when we get in the garden. They are really working my garden now. :D

People in space suits hoeing the garden.

Got to post pictures....Too precious to keep to yourselves. :D :D

They likely will only get meaner until the fall flow starts.

This may make me second guess my hive placement??? Wally, you have seen my hives, and know that they are right where I mow weekly, what do you think? I will most likely mow on Tuesday, I will let you know how it turns out. I can see it now, mowing the back portion of my yard with a lit smoker!!

Mow at dusk or dawn. I finished my weed eating at dusk.

Lit smoker, no...
Veil, maybe.
Caution, yes.

I thought riding mowers had head lights. Night time mowing....ah..the adventures of beekeeping. Nah, I just suit up and mower or trim. They don't mind me when I have my stuff on. I guess when they see me without my stuff on they figure they should try and get a few licks in. :D I think Kurt said it best in the bee class....Keeping bees gives you a good reason not to mow your yard. I know he was talking about the flowers for the bees but still. Good Luck John.

Mowing

Well I mowed today, and the bees did not pay me any attention at all. I did wear a veil just to be safe, but they did not pay me any mind. I did not weed eat around them, but the way they are set up, the mower deck rides over the edge of the landscape stones that border the hive stand, and makes a nice neat cut. I like not having to weed eat much around them. I did cut a few long twigs out with my pocket knife that did not get cut.
