2 questions-
1. What kind of digital camera do you use? It seems to take
good close ups and stop action well, plus take good longshots.

2. Do you think the size of the melted spot on the outer cover
relates to cluster size? or just whether you have "hot" bees?

Camera:
The camera is a Cannon Power Shot S5IS. Got it on sale and with coupons at Best Buy for $325. It has a built in flash, uses AA batteries and there are a few lenses that can be added. It has an optical view finder as well as a LCD screen. Also has a macro setting. Its easy to use, I have been very happy with it so far.

The melted spot.
ummm I am not sure. At first I thought it was from the trees and power lines dropping snow down but, it is centered on both covers. That would be where the hole from the inner cover is located as well. Just hard to say if its from the bees generating heat. The last time I checked, about a week ago, the cluster was in the bottom deep on both hives. I need to see if the covers have a low spot in the middle. Just not sure.

ANYBODY else have this melted spot on the outer cover?

No melted spot but maybe you have more bees in your hive than I. Good pics.
