Lesson learned

About 3 weeks ago, way too long ago now that I check the date I had a smart idea which I read about in beesource or heard from someone, to help the queen move up to the second box which is a medium. The first box is a deep. My thoughts were to expand the brood nest and maybe avoid swarming.
So I moved one of the deep frames up to the medium box and left a space in the deep box for the deep frame to hang down.
I knew I was in trouble yesterday when I looked up through the screened bottom and saw the space was full of bees.
Today I went in and the deep frame that I moved up was ok with brood and the medium next to deep had brood as well. But it also had three 6 to 8 inch long tear drops of soft comb hanging on the bottom of the frame down into the deep box.
I was able to cut the 3 pieces of comb off and replace the deep back in the deep box and returned the medium frame back to the medium box. But I lost the brood in the 3 teardrops as well as the work the bees did in the building. The teardrops were narrow and did not seem to lend themselves to rubber banding in a frame.
Hopefully the queen will continue to lay in both boxes.
Lesson - Three weeks is TOOO long.
Reason - Weather, unexpected trip excuses excuses...
