WOW!!

I have a poplar tree in my back yard that has never had blooms on it that were numerous. I noticed some this year that were at ground level, so I have been watching them to see them open up. I went out this afternoon and they had opened. The nectar was so prevelant that it was running down the bloom petals that had folded back. I tasted it, and it has a honey tint, and tasts just like the honey from last year.

Never knew that the flow was that heavy. Hope it lasts!!!

I finally got to get a photo of the bloom right after it opened and started to seep out the nectar. Here is the link to two photo's.

Ron,

Is it still producing nectar, slowed down or is it done for the year?

It is still blooming a small amount

I think it is still blooming. Once the bloom opens up, the nectar is gone in just a few days. But if you look up through the trees, there are blooms in close to the trunk that are just now opening up. I would guess that the poplar flow peak has came and gone, but there are still some around. This bloom is on a real low limb. I would love to see a bee on one and get a photo of that!

That nectar has a taste very similar to the honey.
