One way bees

The swarm I got from Greensboro on April 25 seems to have been trained (lol) to go in one direction. The inner cover had a cutout for a top entrance. They have always used the top opening even when it was small. They would have a traffic jam at the top opening fall down onto the bottom board and fly back up to the top and continue to jam in that opening. I have since made the top opening larger and the traffic seems to flow in ok without much waiting. However, they do not exit from the top, they only appear to exit from the bottom board.
It would be intresting to know what kind of hive they had before maybe a tree or someone that used top entrances.
