hive bodies

Post by drewgrim »

i have one hive body with no brood just a little uncapped honey on it. it was the bottom body and the second body has all the bees with about 4 frames of brood.

i moved the full body to the bottom and put the empty one on top. now i am wondering if i should just take off the empty one until they fill up the first one. the only thing is that then they wont have access to the extra honey.

any ideas or suggestions?

If you leave it on, monitor for SHB. If you take it off, how will you keep the wax moths out of it?

As for the honey, there is enough blooming now that they won't miss it. It is forecast to rain for the next 5 days. I would wait until after that to remove it.
