Can someone give the steps for getting to the states study test (notes) for the Beginning Beekeepings exam that will be given next weeks meeting? I know it started on the right side with Reference on the left side of the web page but where do we go from there?

And if you made it this far on the forum board, go back up to "Just Stuff," open that topic, go to page 3 and about half way down, open up "Study Guide." You will need to read all of the posts in that one for additions/corrections, and then you will need to thank Ski when you see him for doing the work to provide this review (and Wally for suggestions/corrections).

When Rob made this post, I went in and made the topic a sticky. It is now the first topic on the first page of "just stuff" and will stay there. Wally

Thanks for the link to the study guide. Hopefully it will help. Any ideas about the practical portion of the test?

The practical is made up of lighting the smoker and keeping it lit.
Dressing properly for working the bees.
Identifying the components of the hive.
IE:
Queen, drone, worker.
Same with egg, larva, pupa of each.
honey, pollen, propolis
lids, boxes, frames, bottoms
ETC.ETC.

Overall general knowledge of the hive and how to manipulate it.

When is there an opportunity to do the practical portion of the Certified Beekeeper exam?

I think they give it at the spring meeting. Mar. 5th and 6th in Lumberton.

Also, the Guilford club normally gives them at the spring picnic. I haven't heard it announced yet, so i can't tell you when it is.
