$14.95/ barrel, includes a top and a sealing band. These are not new, but have been cleaned. They are described in the catalog. The price is fob Moravian Falls, and I would not want to think about the shipping costs. You may want to call ahead if you are planning to go up. I don't think they always ...

55 Gallon Drums

I got a 55 gallon drum from Brushy Mountain to use as a water barrel. It's label shows the content to be 280 kilos of honey from Brazil, produced July 3, 2008, with an expiration date of July 3, 2010. Does this mean that I should not put water in the barrel and on July 3rd, 280 kilos of honey will a...

Brian has a meeting scheduled for next week with the director of the City planning department and has invited me to attend. I plan on being there. This is not the public meeting but will be the start of the process leading to changes in the bee ordinance. Please e-mail me if you have any thoughts.

Thanks Ski. I probably will want them. I have e-mailed to offer to speak and have asked for more information about what is wanted and the age of the children. As soon as I know more, I will start preparations.

O.K. folks, how about emailing me at RobertJJacobs@aol.com with your thoughts. Brian Talbert has said he is going forward now and will be asking for changes in both the beekeeping and chicken requirements. Clearly, I am interested in the beekeeping ordinance and want to know your thoughts. If you ha...

It was nice talking with Greensboro beekeepers and other concerned beekeepers Tuesday night. If you have had a chance to read the information I handed out and have any suggestions, please email me at RobertJJacobs@aol.com and use the subject line "Ordinance." If your mailing gets caught by...

Greensboro NC Beekeeping Ordinance discussion

Please make an effort to attend the May 13th meeting. I would like to get together with anyone interested in beekeeping in Greensboro to help plan a course of action. Brian Talbert was recently denied a zoning variance and has to remove his hives. He is planning to ask City Council to amend the ordi...

I would like the same information. David Lancaster and I were at his hives this afternoon and saw a nice large swarm about a foot and a half off the ground on a branch. We dumped them into a five gallon bucket with holes in the lid and brought them to my house. I have just put them in a new deep wit...

I'm interested in the meeting and the potential change to the ordinance. How about posting the meeting location here. Is this a zoning board meeting? It would be good have things together for any proposed ordinance change so that we don't end up with worse than we have now.

There has been a recent posting on the Beesource forum about this. You can access it by the link on our club home page. The gist of what I got was that it was probably just stress and being cooped up, but that you should keep an eye on it, and if they don't slow the pooping, treat for nosema.

Wally knows bees! I went into my hive and saw at best a baseball sized number of workers. I looked in the honey supers like he told me and went to the areas with the most bees. The second honey super farthest from the brood area had center cells cleaned out but nothing in them yet. The first honey s...

Just an update on my remaining hive. It looks like I am in the comb management business until the nucs arrive. I had not seen any orientation flights in a couple of weeks, but bees were bringing in pollen. I went into the hive Monday afternoon and did a reasonably thorough inspection. There were sca...

2 questions-
1. What kind of digital camera do you use? It seems to take
good close ups and stop action well, plus take good longshots.

2. Do you think the size of the melted spot on the outer cover
relates to cluster size? or just whether you have "hot" bees?

I had to sneak out of work early because of the ideal weather. I found my bees doing orientation flights and bringing in some pollen. They still have plenty of "honey" in the 2 medium supers, so I placed half a pollen patty in the hive. I removed the entrance reducer and fired up Wally's f...

I would love to get it along with a brief operating instruction so I don't destroy your equipment or send my bees into outer space. If you want to pm me with your address, we can figure out a time when I can meet you. Also, if you have pollen supplements/substitutes for sale, I would like to get eno...

I can feed sugar water and I have some pollen substitute I can mix up and serve. I don't have a fogger or thymol or a good idea about how to fog. I probably will switch out the solid bottom board for a screened one and may try quick powdered sugar drops when the weather is above 60.
