Re: Wayne's bees

Thanks Wally, I only had my one hive and it's gone, my boss said if he could he'd give me a split off his Italian, he had 2 but one of his did the same as mine plus he has 2 Russians. I'd love to get a split of his Italians and a Wayne queen bee. I contacted Tates and Janice told me that there is a ...

Re: Lost all my bees what to do with the honey

I lost my second hive this week leaving me with 5 out of 10 frames with honey. Should I freeze the frames and leave the honey for new bees I plan to get in the spring or extract the honey so the frames are empty. any thoughts Did you see anything in particular on what happened to your bees? Mine le...

There were about 10-15 on the front entrance
I didn't open any capped drone brood, still learning but the dead bees I saw didn't look deformed or anything, all were normal looking but dead?

What bee do you recommend

I have a question, I have 1 hive and crazy as it seems I'd to get this one mastered before getting any more. 2 years ago in July I got my girls and checked on them and feed them, they lived over the winter and with the warm weather early they were busy out collecting and I continues to check my hive...

Re: buckfast bee

Thanks Kurt, didn't know that so I'll pass on these with that information and since nobody is around here anyways No one that I am aware of. Jerry Isley used to fool with the Buckfast if my memory serves me correctly. Jerry says that they are fine for the first generation but once superceded or swaw...

Hive spacers & do you have a super for honey on yet

I have 10 frame supers, do any of you take a frame out of yours for honey and use a hive spacing tool to evenly space the frames?
2nd question is do you have a super on for honey yet? I know different bees and area are different for each of us but I'm curious?
Thanks in advance.

2 queens possible?

I did a hive inspection today, I have an excluder on top of the brood box, looking inside the brood box last week I noticed no new eggs or larva but an open queen cell and I also saw the queen so I figured the old one must have died. Today I seen the queen and new eggs in the brood box, now I could ...

Cedar chips for smoker

Do any of you use Cedar chips in your smoker? The man that I asked about bees before I got them is what he uses so that is what I've been using. Another guy questioned me on this as cedar chips keep insects out of pet bedding, I personally thing its the smell of Cedar that keeps insects out. I figur...

Re: Spring buildup

Herb, I got a bit confused as to how many boxes you have in total and where the brood is, not just bees, but eggs, larvae and capped brood. The bottom hive body (medium) has the brood & eggs also the queen bee and a bunch of bees 2 total mediums / boxes top (medium) has food and and bees let me...

Ski- thank you... I'll need to read up on what "uncapped stores" are, if what I'm thinking is correct is empties in the foundation then yes there are quite a few
I'll get some sugar tonight and prepare and put it on Sunday afternoon when it's sunny and warmer
Thanks again
