I was wondering if there are any other beekeepers on here that also garden. If so, I have a very specific question. I have a very large garden (about the size of 1/4 football field), and the front corner of the garden is about 20 yards from my hives. I placed my hives here intentionally so my veggie...

Re: How often to inspect?

Thanks Wally!

On a related note, is there an optimal time of day to inspect? Should I inspect in the morning, evening, or middle of the day? Or does it matter?

Lawn maintenance around hives

This is my first year beekeeping, and I have 2 hives. I am curious to know what many of you veterans recommend for maintaining the grass/weeds around your hives. I would like to clear enough area so I don't need to get too close to the hives with my riding mower. My hives are located in an area wher...

Re: New beekeeper.

Ron, Thanks for the introduction. And also, thank you very much for all your guidance thus far. Both hives have been active. I have observed them every morning and evening, and the bees are coming and going very regularly. Per your advice, I have not opened the hives yet to check on the progress. It...
