Re: External hive removal

Rats, it is not an external, they are in the wall. Anyone interested in doing a removal? It is a log-house, I believe the bees are in the soffit above the window (about 15' up from porch), but it will require cutting the wood for sure. Out of my league. I will be glad to pass on anyone's contact inf...

External hive removal

So, not all swam calls are. This is a 'several weeks old' swarm, 8 feet above the porch of a 2 story log cabin home. I am guessing it is 2.5-3 feet wide. It will be necessary to climb up, cut off the comb and wire it into frames. At least a couple hours work I am guessing. http://www.chimports.com/L...

Avoid the excluder, give the queen room to work. As they fill the frames and the queen reduces egg laying in the fall/winter, they will fill in what they can with honey stores.

Picking up a hive

I have a hive (3 med boxes) that I had on a friends farm for pollination. Now I need to move it as he wants to do some spraying for wasps.
Can I reduce it to 1 box before the move?
Or would someone be willing to give me a hand lifting it on and off my pickup this weekend?

Thanks all

Honey Robbing - Newbees want to watch?

I have a hive with 3-4 supers full (hopefully) and need to go pull them this week. Was wondering if any of the new beekeepers would like to come watch. Looking to do it one evening about 6pm.

Call me if interested

Hm, several boxes of moth-eaten plastic foundation in wood frames.
I can scrape the junk off. but then, how much do I need to clean them before painting on some wax?

Feral Hive Extraction request Greensboro

Chris Hughes 814 Milton St, Greensboro (N off Spring Garden just west of Chapman) 336-987-4335 I went and viewed the tree: Feral hive about 25 feet up in a large tree. A small beard of bees outside the hive entrance. Good activity. Owner needs to cut the tree down. Would like someone to save the bees.
