Swarm-3/22/23

Post by Jacobs »

I got a call around 6:30 pm yesterday about a swarm near the Grimsley High area. It was about 5 feet up in a bush and I would estimate it as around 5lbs. When I shook it into my swarm bucket, I could see a decent amount of new comb on bush branches. It may be that the swarm was there awhile before people noticed it or the bees could not resist the urge to draw comb during the cool period when they were mostly clustered. At any rate, I had to scoop a significant number of bees from the ground and found the queen there. I am getting plenty of apitherapy. Given the time of day and temperature, these bees were reluctant to fly--except to give me kisses.
