swarming?

Post by Kurt Bower »

Well it seems as if the swarming has slowed a bit.
Got a call last night about one but for the most part it would seem as if they have stopped for the season.
Someday I will have a better understanding of how they think. Until then I guess i will win a few and lose a few.

Kurt,
Don't put your swarm catch box away quite yet.
Richard and I caught one tuesday, you caught one wednesday, We are taking one out of a garage today and one out of a house tommorrow. Both are new arrivals, not old established hives.
I think the cold, wet weather has held the new queens inside and I expect to see a number of swarms within the next 3 weeks if the weather warms and dries like it is predicted to do.

Hey Wally!

Guess you were right. Got a call just the other day about a swarm. Does one the size of a large grapefruit count?

Back in Oct. we were talking about the price of an observation hive. Sounds like the perfect toime to start one. HA!

Like I said, Kurt, Don't put the catch box away quite yet. I just caught a swarm the size of a beach ball today on Huffine Mill Rd. in Greensboro.
It pretty well filled the hive up completely.

Swarming is definitely not over yet.
I caught another one yesterday in High Point.
Not a large swarm, maybe 3 quarts, but still a swarm.
