Black/Dark wax

Post by M Gall »

Hello All,
Last weekend I removed the frames that came from last years nucs, the frames and wax have darkened and/or black wax and not used by the girls. What should I do with these frames? Should I remove the wax and toss it out, melt it down, should I reuse the frames?
:?
Unsure?

Yes to all above, but they can also be used in swarm traps. They are one of the best lures you can find to attract a swarm into a swarm trap.

You can use an old hive body or nuc, or you can cut the old comb out and place in any box or container approx. the size of a hive.

I use the whole frame in a hive so I don't have to do a cut out when a swarm moves in.
