Large Hive...No Honey!

Post by John Sabat »

Could someone give some tips on making a split. I have a couple of hives that have great number of bee's but very little production. My fear is the same as the previous posting, that being all stores will be consumed before winter arrives.
Should I move one? two? frames of brood with eggs and one? two? frames of honey to a nuc?
Thanks in advance.

One strong hive will produce more than two splits. The amount to go through winter will have to be supplemented more after the split.

For winter prep, feed now.

For hive increase, split and double feed.
