Louisburg NC Beekeeper With Ordinance Trouble

Post by Jacobs »

I think this situation shows the need for our active public service/community bee presentations so that we can educate the public, build alliances, and help to shape reasonable bee ordinances in our area if ordinances are to be established or modified.

And a local news story and interview with the beekeepers--

I think we would all agree that 75 feet is overkill and not necessary.
But, the lady knew about the ordinance and ignored it, maybe hoping not to get caught. Now I hope she removes her hives or somehow comes into compliance with the ordinance its not worth jail time.

With a situation like like this where an ordinance is in place and you can't comply would it have been better to fight the ordinance first or take a shot and hope you don't get caught?
Just some thoughts.

Ski, read it again. They passed the ordinance a couple months after she got bees. It was passed solely for her bees. The town reversed it's ordinance after the next meeting. From the follow up article, I think there was quite a meeting, including members from UNC and NCSBA.

Thanks Wally, I missed it.

So now that makes it more interesting in that she should be grandfathered, but then there are complaints.

Still not worth jail time.
Just some thoughts.
