2012 NC State Fair

Here is a picture of a man that does a lot for beekeeping from field days, beekeeping schools, international beekeeping, state meetings, hive inspections, the fair and more that I don't know about. Of course its Mr. Don Hopkins.

NC is very lucky to have that man. He is definitely worth his weight in gold.

I had an entry in the honey competition but did not get any ribbons.
I am looking forward to picking up my honey and the judges comments and what had points awarded/ deducted on Sunday Oct 21, there's always next year.

Here is what the judges were using:

a. Water content above 18.6% will be disqualified,
below 15.5% will be docked points

Points will be reduced for honey flavor that has been
adversely affected by processing

The 2012 NC State Fair web site listed the winners of the honey competition, the first three places. I didn't even know they had a ribbon for 5th place. I got 85 out of the 100 points.
This is the first year I have entered honey in competition, if I can do this anybody can.

Way to go Ski! I'm still at the point where I am happy to be able to jar my honey, bubbles and all, and get it in the jars instead of on the floor.
