May 9, 2013--Tonight's swarm

Post by Jacobs »

Got a call near 6:30p.m. from High Point Parks and Rec about a swarm they needed removed immediately. I thought about calling High Point members on the swarm list, but there wasn't time. When I got there I would not have wished the swarm on anyone.

I got stung up pretty good getting them into my swarm bucket, and it was dark when David and I put them into a hive. I suspect it is an after swarm and I hope I got whatever queen may have been with it.

This is the first swarm I could have used Bee Quick to help collect.

I just checked this swarm, and it has a queen. I saw eggs and larvae so I kept looking until I saw her. They were hived in a 10 frame medium and I went ahead and added another medium, checkerboarding drawn and undrawn frames.
