over wintering success

Post by Kurt Bower »

Hi everybody!
It would be great to see the success/failure each beekeeper has had thus far for overwintering of your hives.
Please indicate how many hives you started with and how many hives you have left currently.
Also tell us how you teated and any other factors that may have contributed to your success or failure.
Hopefully this information will help others in the future.

As for me I started with 17 colonies and have over wintered 16 giving me a loss of 5.8%. It doesnt concern me greatly since this colony was small going into the winter and I suspect queen failure.
I treat exclusively with FGMO/thymol cords and fog. I am going into my 4th season and am quite satisfied.

Hello, Kurt
The one you lost, was it the storefront save from last July. or did that one make it through?

Hello Wally:

The storefront save is doing fine.
Had another one to have its queen stop laying altogether so I just killed the queen and combined it with a smaller hive.
Have split others and am up to 20 with 10 packages coming in this Saturday.
enough is enough!
