Marking queens - what to do about attendants?

Post by reedyfork »

This is my first attempt with a one-handed catcher and marking pen. Practiced on drones first... Found my queens, but could not figure out what to do about the few attendant bees in the catcher with her and the ones outside the catcher on the "bars". Any advice? They were totally in the way and kept cleaning off the paint before it had time to dry!

My goal is to be able to pluck the various bees right off the frame. I watch the videos where they pick queen and several attendants and put in queen cage; or pick queen up, transfer her to other hand then mark her. I get my hand near the frame and bees are running everywhere I don't catch anything but a stinger.
