In preperation I always go around first and remove (kill) the queen in the hive I am to requeen.
2 days later I placed the cage with queen (no attendants) in the hives. I would have done it a day earlier but weather did not permit.
Yesterday (4 days after putting queens in) I went to check on them. I always look for eggs to see if she is out and laying and sure enough, she was doing her job. I then proceeded to remove the empty cage.
To my surprise the new queen was still in the cage. So I had another queen I had missed! Now I have seen a mother and daughter laying before so this was not a shocker.
The surprise was when I found the mother and another daughter laying side by side.
This means I had a 3 queen colony!
Well I let them go about their business and removed the new queen.
Always something new!
