High Point Swarm-3/23/16
High Point Swarm-3/23/16
David got a call this afternoon from a High Point beekeeper whose hive had swarmed. The cluster was about 15-20 feet above the hive in a holly tree. The beekeeper did not want the swarm--just someone to get them and give them a home. We set up a ladder, used my small generator and the bee vacuum, and David went up and got them. I would estimate about a 5 lb bunch of bees. From the initial behavior of the bees as the vacuum was blowing out air and the fanning from the top of the swarm bucket we put them in, we are pretty certain that the queen is there. We hived them in 2 mediums when we got home. This was a much larger swarm than the one that showed up at the house on 3/15/16.
