Bees Making Entrances
Bees Making Entrances
I now have 2 hives at home where bees are chewing small openings between some of the supers. They don't appear to be using these much for take offs and landings, but a few bees are always on the outside of the supers at the openings. I don't know if the bees like upper entrances (in addition to the inner cover) or if they are working on temperature control. Thoughts?
Re: Bees Making Entrances
My guess would be temp. & HUMIDITY control.
Re: Bees Making Entrances
They are curing the fall nectar, so that may explain the increased activity opening or expanding openings between some supers.
Re: Bees Making Entrances
I have an old box where there are about 3 places around the box that the bees have been using as entrances for the past 2 seasons. I was going to replace the box but as time went on I have noticed that the bees are using these openings as entrances and are rarely using the bottom board entrance.
I noticed today that one of the upper entrance is being closed up with propolis, but the others are not.
I am convinced that this hive of bees like the upper entrances better than the bottom board entrance.

Just some thoughts.
