Swarm-3/24/19

Post by Jacobs »

I got a call this afternoon from second year beekeepers in Summerfield. The 1 hive they started with last year became 3 after we/they captured 2 of their own swarms. All 3 made it over winter and 1 made an attempt to go a couple of days ago, but returned to the hive. That was not the one that swarmed today. They want their 3 hives, but were not anxious to add a 4th. I collected a nice swarm about 5 feet off the ground.

Congrats to the Summerfield beekeepers! Capturing swarms is one of the greatest joys of beekeeping and it never gets much better than one about five feet of the ground! Three hives is a very manageable number to have and if you don't capture them, hopefully some other beek will. (Hey, Rob, sounds like it won't be long until the Greensboro Arboretum will be buzzing again soon.) Fingers crossed!
