Swarms-4/3/19

Post by Jacobs »

One of our second year beekeepers had a swarm come out of his hive and conveniently land near his driveway. I loaned him some beat up old equipment until he can get the rest of a new set up. He had a medium and 10 undrawn frames, so I traded him a frame of dark comb for one of his undrawn ones. We located the queen and got her into a catcher clip to try and make sure the swarm anchors in.

I went through a couple of hives with another 2nd year beekeeper in Summerfield and headed to the Arboretum. When I got to the hives there, I got a call about this swarm off Huffine Mill Road and used my swarm bucket again. It was a fun day.
