Pile of gray powder on IPM board?

Post by reedyfork »

Rob graciously volunteered to come over on Sunday to do a first OAV treatment on my two hives. I installed my IPM boards to check varroa drop through my screened bottom boards. I pulled one out to look at it today, and found some wax moth feces and a weird "pile" of gray powder (almost like ash). It's ~1-2" in diameter and is almost in the center of the board. My first thought was some sort of residue from the OAV, but Rob had never seen anything like it before.

Anyone ever seen anything like that or have any idea what it might be? Again, the clean board was only there for a couple days now.

(I tried attaching a pic, but it's apparently still too big even though I tried to resize it all the way down...)
