Swarm 4/20/20

Post by Jacobs »

The swarm I got from Stadiem threw another swarm around 4:30pm. They seemed disorganized and did not come down to where I had sprayed some swarm commander. I looked at the direction of the bee cloud, sprayed a tree branch a little ahead of them and began tanging. It took about 15 minutes, but the bees came down and landed where I had sprayed. I never found a queen in the first swarm from this hive and suspect most bees went back to the original hive and about 2 medium frames of bees stuck it out where I had put them. I did a newspaper combination of those bees into a small swarm. If I don't see a queen in this swarm, they will get the same treatment. I had marked the queen when I got the original swarm, so I should be able to spot her on a couple of frames if she is there. I doubt the original swarm could have superceded her and gone into swarm mode this quickly.
