What in the world are my bees doing????????????

Please explain this. When I got home from work, my son tells me there is bad news. The bees have a bunch of dead bees that are out at the entrance. So I go look and there are about 20 to 30 bees standing there and not moving. I mean not moving at all. So I go in for a closer look and they all have their tongues stuck in the tiny cracks of the wood. Their abdomens are pulsating and they are using their back legs to rub their abdomens. It appeared they were trying to drink something. Or clean themselves of something. I am using boardman feeders. Does this mean anything to anyone????

I am not sure, but it may be that the boardman feeder had leaked out some syrup, and they were gathering it from the crack. They could be propollizing the crack as well.
