As above, watch the bees entering. If carrying pollen, move the colonies tonight and open them tomorrow. If they have been there a week, a new swarm is likely ready for #'s 6 thru 10 frames. They work fast when first hived. From a 5 frame nuc, they may swarm again within 2 to 3 weeks.

They will only draw comb when they have something to put in it. Are you feeding them heavily?

Not only that, but frames diminish the space in the judgement of the bees. Mediums in a deep box gives them more cluster room and will be more attractive to them. Just check them often and don't allow them to cross comb.

Do what Rob said. I have had many medium frames with nice straight comb on the bottom and used them for years.

I have heard some red maple is now blooming. Matt in Charlotte posted a video of bees loaded with pollen.

They may store it as sugar water and then it drys. That would explain the shapes.

I put the frozen frames in black plastic trash bags and tape all cracks. The honey stays good and no moths or beetles have ever gotten in. Just be sure they have been frozen for 4 days or more just before putting in bags.

They are likely fanning to dry the nectar into honey that they are curing in the wild comb in the spacer. You should take some pics when that spacer is packed with wild comb honey.
