Re: Supering for the honey flow
The top super could have 3 full, or 3 empty supers below it. We need to know the overall condition before we can advise.

Re: Honey Bees In A House
If you put eggs in there at the beginning, all would be emerged in 21 days. If you have capped worker cells, it has been less than 21 days. The queen, on average, will start laying on day 28 from the day the egg is laid. From my calculations, your queen would have emerged three days ago, and now be ...

Re: Honey Bees In A House
If they raised a queen, she is still a virgin. She has not had time to mate and start laying. I would leave it as is for 10 to 15 days before deciding there is no queen.

Re: 6 or 7 day old swarm cutout
I use one of these when I remember it. In reality, I forget most times and lose some of the swarms, but the average is low. Most that I lose are the ones I leave on site. Th scouts find them and take them away. I seldom lose one if I move it when caught. http://www.brushymountainbeefarm.com/10-Frame...

Re: 2 Swarms on Tuesday
Mark, it is just a precaution, not a necessity. You can move them anytime you want, but I have had fewer absconds after they had brood. When I capture a swarm, I try to move it immediately, before the scouts return and take it away. When they have moved in on their own, I try to leave them alone unt...

Re: 2 Swarms on Tuesday
It's only my personal opinion, but I think you are moving too fast. I would wait 4 or more days to give them time to have larva. Without it, they may swarm out again if disturbed.

Re: Honey Bees In A House
It will work much better setting on two blocks high. The closer to the bottom of the screen the hive entrance is, the quicker they will enter it. I like to have it close enough for them to walk into the hive without having to fly. http://www.guilfordbeekeepers.org/community/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=...

Re: Feeding Ratios
I use hot tap water. It is hot enough to mix for feeding in the spring. Use equal amounts of sugar and water. A pint is a pound, whether sugar or water.
Mix twice as much sugar as water for fall feeding to be stored for winter. For that, you will need to heat the water to near boiling.

5 frame with 1 or 2 frames of brood. 8 frame with 3 or 4 frames of brood. Depends on what you find in the main hive. Leave at least 3 frames of brood in the main.

They will still swarm, until you remove the queen and leave queen cells.

In between, I went and helped a guy get one out of a tree in Randleman. That makes 7. I finally got home at 9:30 last night. One busy day for swarms.

If it is baseball size, they will repair it. If you cut the bottom half off, they will repair it.

Re: Damaged Foundation
You can check for eggs anytime after 7 days from install. The bees will repair the foundation. Be sure all frames are pushed tightly together and centered. They will build wild comb if an open space is left between frames.

Re: Newbie........and so confused!
Change the entrance reducer sometime after 3 weeks, when you see them waiting to get in. They should have ample room to enter without waiting for another to get out of the way. The first 3 weeks, there will be no new bees, so no reason to remove it. Remove the mite board and have it in only while do...

Not too early if you have 6 or more frames of brood, 4 or more frames of honey, and 15 or more frames of bees.
